INTRODUCING

QUEER LIFTING 

Learn to lift weights in a safe and controlled environment. This in-person series is designed for the Queer community!  Who doesn't want to lift weights with a bunch of Queer folks every week? 

THESE CLASSES ARE WAITING FOR YOU...

In this 4-week in-person series, you’ll learn how to:

  • Lift barbells and navigate gym equipment safely 
  • Unlock your truest and most confident self
  • Build strength and improve mobility
  • Feel more connected to your body

INTRODUCING

QUEER MOBILITY

This is a 5-week mobility series. During these weeks you will work on improving your joints' active range of motion through a number of exercises.

Mobility training is optimal for injury prevention as it improves controlled range of motion when an individual is running, jumping, lifting. If you’re constantly stiff, want to improve your athletic performance, struggle with poor posture or are injury prone then this class is for you. 

Held every Tuesday at Wild + United Athletics from 7-8pm.

HEY, I'M MAL (THEY/THEM)!

I'm a trans and non-binary certified personal trainer located in the Comox Valley of Vancouver Island!

Growing up in a small town, I often found myself sitting on the sidelines wondering why I wasn’t like everybody else. After struggling to feel like I genuinely belonged for most of my life, I decided it was time to break free from my limitations and step into the person I was always meant to be — confident and free to live the life I’ve always imagined. 

Lifting weights and feeling strong in my body has been such an affirming part of my life and transition. After graduating with a degree in Kinesiology, I started working at Wild + United Athletics in Courtenay and fell head over heels in love with the inclusive community. This space is an absolute gem and I will forever be grateful how it came into my life when I needed community most. 

Feeling a sense of community is something that I strive for in my classes. The reason I started Queer lifting and mobility was for community and I'm so blessed to be able to host it in the gym that gave me a sense of belonging and purpose.
